Truly Ergonomic
The SmartNAV EG ends wrist strain, by eliminating the need for a mouse. It's the best solution available for Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonitis, Repetitive Strain Injury, and other wrist strain related problems.

Use Your Head, Spare Your Hands
The main cause of carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis is the repeated stressful motion of moving your hand from your keyboard to your mouse. Smart-Nav doesn’t require any hand motion, offering you the highest level of relief possible.

Switch input
You can plug a click switch or a footswitch directly into the side of the SmartNAV. With the Y Breakout Cable(included), you can plug in separate click switches for left and right clicking.

Natural Motion
SmartNAV was designed to complement the natural head motion you already perform when looking around. Moving your head less than a quarter inch easily maneuvers the cursor across your entire screen

Features:
The smartNAV is both the fastest system on the market and the most adaptable to the user's needs.
  • Speed: The cursor position is updated at a blazing 120 samples per second, resulting in precise cursor placement with real time response.
  • Resolution: A high resolution imager allows for pixel accurate pointing and control that feels like a laser pointer.
  • Lighting conditions: Sunlight resistance and tracking technology allow the system to be used in almost any lighting environment, sunlight is not a problem.
  • Software: smartNAV is the only system with software which allows for full configuration and adaptability of the device.
Exclusive Features:
The smartNAV software has many exclusive features to increase the usability of the system, the following are a few user favorites.
  • Gravity: Users will enjoy this feature which helps you click on hard to hit icons and check boxes by briefly locking onto the center of whatever object you are trying to hit.
  • Profiles: The Smart-Nav AT software lets you create and save as many user profiles as you wish. When you load your personal profile, the software settings and features will automatically adjust to your preferences.
  • Hotkeys: HotKeys allow users to designate easy-to-reach keys for clicking, centering, and scrolling so your hands never have to leave the keyboard.
Accessories
NaturalPoint also offers a complete line of accessories for the smartNAV, including the highest quality tracking material so you can simply place a "dot" on your glasses or mic boom and point away. A NaturalPoint hat with the dot already built in, provides stylish and simple pointing solution. And a variety of accessibility switches for clicking are available, including NaturalPoint's custom footswitch.

How It Works
Smart-Nav uses an infra-red(IR) camera to track your head movements. You reflect IR light back to the Smart-Nav, which sends instructions to your computer to move your mouse cursor.

Place the Dot
SmartNAV tracks reflections from a tiny dot, which you can place anywhere: Head, Hand, Hat, Glasses, Mic Boom. We also sell alternatives to the dot sticker.

What do I Wear?
Put a paper thin tiny reflective dot on the part of your body you'd like to control the cursor with. Placing the dot on a hat or mic boom are the current favorites.

Where do I put the SmartNav?
The SmartNAV usuall sits on top of your monitor, facing you. But you can clip it to laptops or place it behind you. It can be placed anywhere as long as it can see whichever reflective accessory you've chosen to wear.

How much do I Move?
Less than an inch of head movement is more than enough to move the cursor across your entire screen. This is also adjustable in our software's "speed" settings. SmartNAV has a 30 degree Field Of View (FOV), and usuall sits about 2 feet away from your head. Thus you have at least a foot and a half of free "head space" in which to move that simple inch.

How do I click?
SmartNAV Basic users click with Hot Keys on their keyboard. These keys can be easily reassigned, or disabled. They can perform their function only while pressed, or they can toggle the function on and off. For more information on the endlessly versatile Hot Keys, download our free SmartNAV manual. If you purchase an EG or AT package, you can plug switches into the SmartNAV device for clicking.

Technical Details
Infrared light is emitted from the LEDs and is reflected back to the imager by a corner cube reflector (3M safety material). This reflected light is imaged by a CMOS sensor and the video signal is passed to the preprocessing electronics. The video signal is thresholded against a reference level and all passing data is sent to the USB microcontroller to send to the PC for object tracking. In order to increase the signal to noise ratio an IR filter that passes only 800nm and above is placed between the imager lens and the outside world.

The Smart-Nav can image any IR source; typically this is reflective material or an active IR source such as an LED. A user may track many different objects by placing reflective dots or LEDs on the object. The Smart-Nav has a 30 degree field of view and anything being tracked must stay in that field of view.
