You can use this RCS 8-Channel 5-Amp X10 Relay Control Unit to control HVAC dampers, electric sprinkler valves, electric door strikes, thermostats, and more.
Works with any X10 powerline controller, such as the RCS CommStar controllers (Models CS30/308/48) or HomeSeer Home Automation Software.
The 8R5PX Relays Control Unit responds to any X10 Unit Code
command of “ON” or “OFF”. Each relay can be assigned a different, or the same, X10 House Code and Unit Code address. Create 8 independent relays or combine to form up to an 8PDT relay. Supports X10 string commands, such as A1, A2, A3 ON.
Relay Outputs
8 individual SPDT relays. Contacts rated at 5 Amp, 30 VDC. Screw terminal connections for Common, NO and NC contacts. Each relay channel can be set to one of the following operating modes:

- Latched output
- Momentary output (pulse output with On command only)
- Pulsed output (pulse output with ON and OFF commands)
- Settable pulse time from 1 second (default) up to 4 seconds

LED Indicators:
Each relay channel has a LED indicator to show its ON/OFF status. A multi-function status LED shows unit operating status, X10 powerline connection and X10 command reception, and programming information.
Default Mode of Operation:
The unit defaults to an 8 channel latched relay controller, with a House Code of A and Unit Codes 1 to 8. No programming is required for this mode.
Address and function programming:
Each relay can be programmed to its own X10 address and operating mode. Relay channel programming is done by placing the unit into the programming mode (by pressing the Program Mode button on the PCB) and sending it X10 programming commands. All changes are permanently saved even when powered down. There are two modes of programming, Group and Individual.
Group Mode programming:
In the simple Group mode of programming, all relays are programmed to the same House Code address and/or operating mode and relay channels are sequentially mapped to Unit Codes, starting with the Unit code sent. You can start with any Unit Code, but usually 1 or 9 are used for group sequences 1-8 or 9-16.
Individual Mode programming:
In Individual programming mode, each relay can be set to any X10 Address, A to P and any unit code, 1-16. Multiple relays can be assigned the same address to make multi-pole relays. Each relay can be assigned a latched, momentary or pulsed mode of operation. Momentary and Pulse outputs can also be set to pulse times from 1 to 4 seconds. During programming, each relay is stepped through in sequence for setup.
WinEVM Support
The Windows based WinEVM Event Manager software, used in conjunction with CommStar Network Control Units, has built-in support for all 256 X10 device addresses (House Code/Unit Code). WinEVM allows creation of events and macros that include X10 relay control that can be downloaded into CommStar Network Control Units.
X10 Powerline Connection
The 8R5PX connects to standard 110VAC household power outlets by an X10 powerline interface module (Model PSC05) that is included.
