| Symptom: | Cause and/or Corrective Actions |
| The Scat Mat light doesn't come on when I turn the unit ON. | - Battery not installed. Install one 9 volt battery (not included).
- Battery clip not attached securely. Re-connect 9 volt battery
- The battery is dead. Try another.
- May be defective. Contact factory for repair of defective unit. (see below)
|
| Unit has stopped sensing. |
- Dirty mat. Clean mat with warm soapy water and dry.
- May be defective. Contact factory for repair of defective unit. (see below)
|
| The battery has worn out after a very short time. or The unit triggers continuously. It can activate about 10,000 times on a good quality battery
|
- RF (radio frequency) interference from a nearby source is causing unit to continuously trigger. Move emitting electronics or Scat Mat. Try turning OFF other electrical appliances/devices in the immediate area. Examples include: dimmer switches, automatic sensor activated devices, florescent lights, etc. Use a radio to help you identify RF source.
- RF interference from a plug in version of the Scat Mat is causing the unit to continously trigger. Separate units by a couple of feet. Contact Contech for assistance at 1-800-767-8658.
- Weak battery. Try a new alkaline battery.
- It's wearing out through heavy use. If in a high traffic location, consider purchasing an optional Power Adapter (part SKM-PAB) to use instead of batteries.
- May be defective. Contact factory for repair of defective unit. (see below)
|
| The Activity Indicator light doesn't count higher than 6. | This is intentional. Unit is not malfunctioning. While 'blinking the activation count' the unit is 'disarmed' and not sensing. The count limit was therefore set at a nominal number high enough to perform the 'tattle tale' role, but not high enough to reduce effectiveness of the Scat Mat. |
|
Sparks can be seen on the mat.
| A wire conductor in the mat is broken. Replace Mat. (if within 2 year warranty Contech will replace at no charge.) |
| Static pulses can be felt when touching the buttons under the Power Pack, but not when touching the mat itself. |
- No connection exists between Power Pack and Mat because the Power Pack is not snapped tightly onto mat. Undo snaps and re-fasten.(Silver buttons under the mat are snaps, simply pull mat away from black box to release and then re-connect. They are intentionally tight.)
- You may not be touching 2 adjacent wires (visible on close inspection). They're attached to the two buttons at the top of the Power Pack and run around the mat in a racetrack pattern.
- A wire conductor in the mat may be broken. Look for small black spot with a wire break visible. If broken Replace Mat. (if within 2 year warranty Contech will replace at no charge.); OR With Power Pack on LOW setting, check wire above Power Pack, if pulses felt, follow wires around mat until break found. Replace Mat. (if within 2 year warranty Contech will replace at no charge.)
|
| Extension Section on a Circular Mat doesn't work. |
Extensions assembled in wrong direction/order. Extensions must be attached in a clockwise direction from the base with the Power Pack.
