What's New Since Version 1.3.50...

HIGHLIGHTS
HALbasic now supports house phones! In addition to using one or more microphones in the home and calling in remotely, you can now talk to HAL using any phone in the home. Requires a HAL-compatible modem. See the HAL Online Help Guide for information on setting up this feature.

Voice dialing. HALbasic users can now tell HAL to call anyone in their Directory. With simple voice commands, you can tell HAL to call someone at home, work, or on their cell phone, and HAL will dial for you! New automation features. HALbasic users now get a taste of HAL's advanced automation features with sensors and if/then situations (rules). With these features, you can set up HAL to automatically turn on lights when you enter a room or set it up to announce information as soon as you open the front door.

Customize HAL's response. Users have always been able to choose their own attention word. Now you can customize HAL's response! Change HAL's default response of "Yes?" to "What can I do for you?" or "Wazzuuup?" or have it play a WAV file -- whatever you choose!

Incremental scheduling gives you the ability to have an action occur several times a day. For instance, set up a "grandfather clock" WAV file to play every hour on the hour or have HAL announce stock information every half hour. You can even set the event to occur during certain hours of the day, such as having the grandfather clock chime only between 9am and 9pm.

Text-to-speech codes can now be used in mailbox greetings. Have HAL announce the date and time as part of the greeting or have it "sing" the greeting. For use with text-to-speech greetings.

Install While Downloading

Description:
This option downloads a small program (halbasic.exe). When this program is activated, the system goes out to the Internet and downloads the files for the HALbasic program. Only the files that are needed are downloaded.

Important Notes:
  • You must be connected to the Internet to run the program.
  • HALbasic should not be running when this program is running. (The program will flash a warning if it finds HAL running.)
  • If the connection to the Internet is broken during the procedure, the program will automatically ask if you would like to uninstall the partial program. It is recommended that you choose "yes" for this option. The partial files will be uninstalled. Reconnect to the Internet and re-run the downloaded program (halbasic.exe)
Instructions:
  1. Download the Internal install program, HALbasic.exe (less than 400Kb), to any location on the computer or run it from its location on our website (skip to step 4).
  2. Make sure you're still connected to the Internet before running the install program.
  3. Double-click on the downloaded file.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Errors:
Normally, when the HALbasic.exe file is run, the program automatically connects to the Internet and starts downloading the files. Some people may encounter a problem where the system says that it can't connect to the network server. This may happen if certain online services, such as America Online (AOL), are used for connecting to the Internet. If this error occurs, start the online service, such as AOL, then double-click on the HALbasic.exe file; the download/installation process should begin. Leave the online service running until HAL is completely installed.

Download Then Install

Description:
This option downloads the entire HALbasic program in parts. This option is recommended for those users who would like to keep a full copy of the program on-hand and don't wish to purchase an upgrade CD from Technical Support.

Important Notes:
  • HALbasic should not be running when you start to install this software.
  • If the connection to the Internet is broken during the procedure, delete the file that didn't completely download. Reconnect to the Internet and re-download the file.
Instructions:
  1. Download the files below to any location on the computer.
    HALbasic.EXE 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W02 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W03 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W04 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W05 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W06 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W07 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W08 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W09 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W10 3,900Kb
    HALbasic.W11 1,000Kb

  2. Double-click on the EXE file (HALbasic.exe)
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Errors:
Some people may encounter an error during installation where the program asks for Disc 2 or something similar. This error occurs because Internet Explorer renamed the files when they were downloaded and the installation program can't find the files it needs. To correct this, go to the location on the computer where the files were downloaded. If the file names don't match the names listed above, then right-click on the file name, select the option "Rename", and change the file names to match. Generally, the files that are renamed are the ones with the ".W02" to ".W11" extensions.
