The Irrigander 8 expander is comprised of two modules: an Encoder that is installed close to or inside the sprinkler controller; a Decoder that is installed close to the valves to be controlled. The 4 field control wires attached to the irrigation controller's output controlling the 4 valves to be expanded are disconnected and connected to the 4 outputs on the Irrigander 8 expander's Encoder. The 8 inputs to the Encoder are connected to any available 8 irrigation controller outputs. The 4 field wires are connected to the Decoder and the outputs from the decoder are connected to the original 4 valves plus up to 4 additional valves. The Irrigander 8 expander can drive up to 8 zones in the irrigation system depending on the number of field wires. For installations with more than 4 field wires to the valves, the Irrigander 8 expander will use 4 field wires to drive 8 zones allowing the additional wires to be used for additional valves.
