The UPB Lamp Module plugs into your wall, but you won't lose an outlet: The lamp to be controlled plugs into the bottom of the module, but a pass-through outlet is included as well, for a non-controlled appliance or lamp.
TheUPB Lamp Module can be controlled remotely using a UPB Wall Controller or a UPB Dimmer Switch (both sold separately).

With the free, downloadable UpStart software and a UPB Interface Module (sold separately), you can use your computer to configure and/or control UPB devices.
The UPB Lamp Module uses Universal Powerline Bus technology for superior performance and reliability. Similar to the standard X10 protocol, Universal Powerline Bus technology uses your existing power wires, so no rewiring is necessary in order to use this switch. But UPB benefits include its higher reliability, since its signal strength is stronger than X10, with increased electrical noise resistance.
