Fequently Asked Questions
- Whenever I try to teach commands into the play or stop buttons, teh LCD will 'Good,' but nothing happens.
Perhaps the SL-9000 is in a punchthrough mode. For example, if you tried to teach the buttons surrounding the big circle of buttons but they were in a Transport Punchthrough, the learning procedure would say 'Good,' but nothing would happen.
Clear the punchthrough this way:
- Press [Device] and Mute buttons at the same time until SET appears in the LCD
- Press the Play button in the center until PUNCH appears in the LCD
- Press [Device] again.
Note: the Play button controls the transport buttons (play, stop, rew, FF, Stop, Guide, Menu, Pre.Ch, and Exit)
If you need to clear other punchthroughs like Volume and/or channel, follow the same steps. To clear the Volume punchthrough, press Vol.Up at step 2; if you're clearing the Channel punchthrough, press Vol.Down at step 2.
- Volume doesn't work for my TV, AUD, etc.
Remote may be in "Volume Punch-through." Press the DEVICE button and MUTE simultaneously. The remote will read "SET" in the LCD. Press the VOLUME button UP. The remote will read "PUNCHTHROUGH." Press the same DEVICE button again. The LCD will then flash the respective device.
- This remote won't do all the things my original remote was able to do.
Try the next code in the table. There will be codes that will do some of the things your original remote was able to do, but only one code will do everything your original remote was able to do.
- The power button doesn't work in TV, VCR, etc.
POWER may have been used as a MACRO. To return the POWER button to its original setting, press the respective DEVICE button and MUTE simultaneously. The LCD will read "SET." Press the POWER button. The remote will read "M5_# #." Then press the CHANNEL button UP.
- LCD display reverts from one device to audio automatically.
This is an early indicator that the batteries are dying. Change the batteries and put in new ones.
- Can I program a second TV, VCR, etc. under another device button?
Yes. For example, if you want to program a second VCR under AUX, you would press AUX and MUTE simultaneously. The LCD will read "SET." Press VCR. The LCD will still read "SET." Now you can try the codes under the VCR section.
- None of the codes work for my satellite and I cannot teach from the original SAT remote.
Your SAT may be UHF/RF. If so, our remotes are strictly IR (infrared) only and will not work.
- How can I change a preprogrammed button command to do something else?
You will need to follow the LEARNING method outlined in the instruction manual. You will teach over the respective button from your original remote control.
- Can I change what it says in the LCD display?
Yes. Hold down the respective DEVICE button and the MENU button simultaneously. Each press of the MENU button will result in a different message on the LCD.
- What if I can't find a code in the manual to operate one of my components?
Do an AUTO SEARCH. This enables you to go one step at a time through each code in each respective device (see p.10). You can also teach the SL-9000 from your original remote control.
- What if I forgot what code I used for any of my devices?
Press DEVICE and the MUTE button simultaneously. The LCD will read "SET." Then press the T/V button which is located next to the MUTE button. The code for that DEVICE will flash quickly in the LCD.
-
How do I erase a button I already learned?
Press DEVICE and the SEL/PLAY button simultaneously until LEARN appears in LCD. Press the button you wish to erase. It will say READY in LCD. Press the LIGHT button and hold it down. It will flash ERASE, then CLEAR.
- Can I erase everything I learned in one device?
Yes. Press the respective DEVICE button and the SEL/PLAY button simultaneously until it says LEARN in LCD. Press the same DEVICE button and the LIGHT button simultaneously and hold it down. It will flash ERASE repeatedly before it says CLEAR. When it flashes CLEAR, you can let go of the two buttons. It will flash CLEAR for five minutes.
- Can I erase everything I learned in all device models at one time and have the remote back to its original setting the way I received it?
Yes. Press the TV button and the LIGHT button simultaneously until it flashes ERASE repeatedly and then CLEAR.
- In doing macros under M1 (for example), I programmed my AUD, TV, and VCR to turn on. When I want to turn everything off, I hit M1 again. everything turns off, but at the end of the macro sequence, my AUD turns back on. What can I do?
It may be an instance where your original audio system remote control had a separate ON and a separate OFF button. In a case like that, you would program the Macro under M1 to turn everything ON, and then M2 to separately turn everything else OFF.
- How do you change input selects?
Press the respective DEVICE button twice.
- Where are the cursor buttons for the DVD?
The common location for the curser buttons are the TUNER & REAR (up) buttons for UP/DOWN, and TAPE & REAR (down) for LEFT/RIGHT.
- Cannot find a code that turns on/off my CD player.
Check if your original CD remote has a POWER button. If it doesn't, then our remote will not be capable of acting as a power source for your CD player.
- My LCD display flashes reset whenever I press a key.
This is due to weak batteries. Replace them with fresh batteries and the remote control will resume its normal functionality.
